Founded on May 28 1951 by Bishop George L Leech Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Parish has a rich history. Father Thomas J Simpson the first pastor envisioned a vibrant community. He celebrated the first Mass in a private home. The congregation quickly outgrew this space. They then used the Camp Hill Theatre for services. Hundreds attended Sunday masses. The church became known for its “Standing Room Only” services. Fundraising efforts including bazaars and social events financed the construction of a church and school. On July 22 1952 the groundbreaking ceremony took place. Sisters of Mercy initially taught religion. The Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary joined later. The school opened in 1953 with 121 students. The church and school were blessed and dedicated by Bishop Leech. Over the next decades the parish grew significantly. They eventually built a larger church on Trindle Road. This reflects the strong community spirit and commitment to faith. The dedication of the new church in 1978 marked a new chapter. The Good Shepherd Parish continues to serve its community. It fosters good ecumenical relationships. It also addresses spiritual physical and material needs. Various ministries support parishioners. The parish continues to be a beacon of faith and unity. The Good Shepherd Parish stands as a testament to its enduring legacy. It represents the devotion and resilience of its community.
