Could a single person’s vision truly shape a spiritual sanctuary? Here at the Gold Buddha Monastery in Vancouver, that question finds a resounding answer. The Gold Buddha Monastery, established in 1984, stands as a testament to the dedication of Venerable Master Hsuan Hua, the founder of the Dharma Realm Buddhist Association. He envisioned a place where the teachings of Mahayana Buddhism could flourish. The monastery quickly became a cornerstone of the Buddhist community in Vancouver. It initially opened at 301 East Hastings Street. Later, due to the growing congregation and the need for more space for educational programs, the monastery relocated to its current location at 248 East 11th Avenue in 1999. The Venerable Master’s commitment to sharing the Dharma was unwavering. He would travel from the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, often enduring an arduous eighteen-hour car ride to Seattle, followed by another three-hour journey to reach the Gold Buddha Monastery in Vancouver. He would then tirelessly propagate the Dharma for several days before making the long return trip, often foregoing even water, except during his midday meal. The Gold Buddha Monastery isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a vibrant center for learning. It offers various programs and opportunities to study and practice Mahayana Buddhism, fostering a sense of community and spiritual growth. The Gold Buddha Monastery welcomes those seeking to deepen their understanding of Buddhist principles.
