The Gold Buddha Monastery, established in 1984, stands as a testament to the dedication of Venerable Master Hsuan Hua, the founder of the Dharma Realm Buddhist Association. It initially opened at 301 East Hastings Street. Later, due to the growing congregation and the need for more space for educational programs, the monastery relocated to its current location at 248 East 11th Avenue in 1999. The Venerable Master’s commitment to sharing the Dharma was unwavering. He would travel from the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, often enduring an arduous eighteen-hour car ride to Seattle, followed by another three-hour journey to reach the Gold Buddha Monastery in Vancouver. He would then tirelessly propagate the Dharma for several days before making the long return trip, often foregoing even water, except during his midday meal.
