Think of a nearly 300-meter-long indoor shopping street. That is Globen Shopping. It is not just a shopping center. It is a vital part of the Stockholm Globe City area.

Globen Shopping opened its doors in 1989. It quickly became a landmark. The shopping center is linked to four high buildings. These buildings also house many offices. Aftonbladet newspaper once had its editorial office here. Its main entrance was in the gallery’s southernmost part.

Today, Globen Shopping boasts around 60 stores. It also features about ten restaurants and cafes. Entrances are at Globentorget level. You can also enter from Arenavägen and Tele2 Arena. A three-level parking garage sits beneath the complex.

Berg Arkitektkontor AB designed the building. This is the same firm that designed the iconic Globen itself. The shopping center is an integral part of the area. The Stockholm Globe City also includes venues like Hovet, Annexet and Tele2 Arena.

The Avicii Arena, formerly known as Ericsson Globe, is nearby. It represents the sun in the Sweden Solar System. Since 2010, the Globe has featured the SkyView attraction. These glass gondolas take visitors to the top of the Globe.

Some Stockholmers joke that the Globe looks like a butt. This is especially true when viewed from a distance after the SkyView was installed. Each gondola holds 16 people. The ride ascends to 130 meters above sea level. It offers stunning views of Stockholm.

Before boarding SkyView, you watch a short film. This film details the Globe’s creation and the SkyView’s construction. The SkyView was built by ski lift engineers.

Globen Shopping is part of the largest event venue in Northern Europe. This area hosts world-class sports and entertainment. Around 1.4 million people visit each year.

In 2016, the Stockholm Globe received its first exterior cleaning. Specialized workers used high-pressure washers. This cleaning refreshed the landmark for the Eurovision Song Contest.

So, as you explore Globen Shopping today, remember its history. It is more than just a place to shop. It is a central piece of Stockholm’s vibrant Globe City. It connects entertainment, business and leisure.
