From 1840 to 1928, this road, known as The Halfway, served as a vital link between the city and the community of Porirua. But in 1928, a competition was held to rename this place, and the name Glenside was chosen. This name, reminiscent of Scottish glens, has stood the test of time, even though the main road that hugged this milk stand was bypassed by a new motorway in 1951.
Now, in 2004, the Glenside Milk Stand was moved further south to allow for alterations to Middleton Road. However, it remains a symbolic cornerstone of the history of the Porirua Road, a reminder of a time when milk was delivered by horse and cart.
