Let’s delve into the origins of the name Glen Alpine. It dates back to the 1820s. Thomas Reddall built a house and gave it that name. Reddall also lends his name to Thomas Reddall High School in neighbouring Ambarvale. Sadly, the house burnt down in the early 1900s. The site is now called Heritage Park on Abington Crescent. James Sheil, a property owner, built a new Glen Alpine not long after the fire. This house remains in Bell Tree Close.
In the 2021 Census, Glen Alpine had a population of 4,429. A significant 70.1% of people were born in Australia. The next most common country of birth was England at 3.5%. Most residents primarily speak English at home. 74.4% of people spoke only English at home. Other languages spoken at home included Arabic at 4.2%. The most common responses for religion were Catholic 31.0%, No Religion 18.3% and Anglican 15.7%.
Glen Alpine is characterized by low-density residential housing. Blocks range between 800sqm and 1900sqm. Most homes are less than 30 years old. They are styled as modern heritage. Other designs are also common.
According to the 2021 census, 98.3% of privately occupied homes are detached houses. Many are owned outright or are being bought.
Campbelltown Golf Course is a major attraction in Glen Alpine. It is an 18-hole championship course. The course is 5764m long. It has a par of 70. The golf course is open to the public.
