“Fridhem”, a name whispered with tales of transit. Here at Fridhem, stories converge like the metro lines beneath our feet. Before Fridhemsplan became the bustling hub it is today, this area was simply known as Kungsholmen toll station.

Fridhem’s modern story truly begins in 1935. That year, it officially became Fridhemsplan. This was named after Fridhemsgatan, the major street that intersects here. The name Fridhem suggests tranquility.

Deep beneath our feet, the Stockholm Metro hums. Fridhemsplan metro station is a vital interchange. Both the blue and green lines intersect here. The green line was here first. In 1975, the blue line added to Fridhem’s connectivity.

Look around. Notice the shoppers bustling in and out of Västermalmsgallerian. This shopping mall opened in 2002. It aimed to attract the young middle-class shoppers of the surrounding area. The mall stands on the site of a renovated 1970s building. Before the mall, there was an underground “square”. This square was at the intersection of Sankt Eriksgatan and Fleminggatan Streets.

Did you know Fridhemsplan also has a major STF hostel? Imagine travelers from around the world converging here. They explore Stockholm, using Fridhem as their base.

Now, imagine Fridhem in different times. Picture the old toll station. Can you hear the clatter of horses and carts? Then, envision the construction of the metro. Picture the flurry of activity as lines were built. See the opening of Västermalmsgallerian, bringing modern shopping to the area.
