The founder’s initial efforts were hampered by a lack of resources. He found himself needing a safe haven for these vulnerable youth. In 2001 a house on Rua Maracujá Natal became their first home. Men and women lived together. The founder even left his Provincial house to be closer to them. Eventually separate houses were needed for men and women.
A significant turning point arrived in 2002. A plot of land in the Zona Sul was donated. Thanks to a generous contribution from the brother of Father Luís Carlos Tierney. A new Centro de Solidariedade Madre Teresa de Calcutá was built. It opened its doors in 2005. The Fratérnitas Madre Tereza de Calcutá evolved. It now provides refuge for the elderly and the sick. Many are homeless and facing their final days. This place offers solace and care.
