“Franco Passerella Plaque” is a small bronze plaque embedded in the wall of the Scuola Grande di San Teodoro in Venice. It commemorates Franco Passarella, a young Venetian man who was killed by friendly fire during the Italian Resistance during World War II. Franco was 18 years old when he joined the Resistance, a movement of rebels fighting for the liberation of Italy from the Nazi occupation. He was a member of a group of young men who planned to join forces with the Italian Resistance fighters in the mountains. But, he disappeared in the Val Camonica and did not return home after the Liberation. His body was only found in 1946, but he had been killed in June 1944. Years after his death, his story was made public, and it was determined that Franco was shot and killed by a group of partisans from the “Fiamme Verdi” brigade, who had suspected that he was a spy.
