Ever wondered about the birthplace of Alsace’s television news? Right here stands the France 3 Alsace headquarters. This building is more than just a place of work. It’s a historical landmark a window into Alsace’s media history.

France 3 Alsace didn’t always exist. Its roots go back to 1953. Then it was known as RTF Télé-Strasbourg. It began broadcasting on October 15. The government changed things in 1964. RTF became ORTF. RTF Télé-Strasbourg became ORTF Télé-Strasbourg. A significant change happened on January 6 1975. ORTF Télé-Strasbourg transformed into FR3 Alsace. Finally in 1992 FR3 Alsace became France 3 Alsace. This reflects the evolution of French television itself.

The France 3 Alsace building you see today wasn’t the first. It’s located at Place de Bordeaux. The original transmitter was at rue Lauth. It’s fascinating to think about the technological leaps. The early days involved 819 lines of black and white TV. Think about it. No color. Just black and white. The transition to 625 lines was a big step forward. That is standard definition TV.

France 3 Alsace produces regional news broadcasts. They include the 12/13 and 19/20 bulletins. These news programs cover the entire Alsace region. They also broadcast sub-regional bulletins. These shorter bulletins focus on Strasbourg-Deux Rives and Haute-Alsace. There’s even a short bulletin in the Alsatian language. It’s called Rund um and it has French subtitles. That’s unique right? It is also worth noting that France 3 Alsace broadcasts to Switzerland and parts of Germany. The potential audience is around 2.5 million people.

The channel’s programming is diverse. It includes news sports features and entertainment shows. There are programs about Europe. There are even cooking shows in Alsatian. France 3 Alsace has a significant budget of €20.4 million. That’s a substantial investment in regional television. This shows the importance of local media.

The France 3 Alsace building itself is notable. It’s the Maison de la Radio et de la Télévision. It was constructed starting in 1956. The architects were Paul Tournon A Devilliers and P Verdier. This impressive building stands as a testament to Alsace’s broadcasting legacy. It’s a quiet giant in the city. A giant that continues to share the stories of Alsace and beyond.
