“Did the walls of Former Macquarie Boys’ Technology High School whisper secrets?” a student might have wondered, gazing at the imposing structure. Former Macquarie Boys’ Technology High School, established in the 1920s as Parramatta Intermediate High School, held a significant place in Parramatta’s history. It opened its doors as Macquarie Boys’ Technology High School in 1957. The school buzzed with activity, shaping young minds for decades. However, a shadow loomed. By 2008, years 7 through 10 were discontinued. The remaining students in years 11 and 12 focused on completing their Higher School Certificates. The low student numbers and persistent reputation problems led to its closure in 2009. A planned rejuvenation into Lachlan Macquarie College, specializing in maths and science, never materialized. The site, once a symbol of learning, became a canvas for graffiti and vandalism. A series of suspicious fires further scarred the grounds. In 2016, the main hall was gutted. Subsequent fires in 2017 and 2018 added to the devastation. Finally, in late August 2018, the buildings were demolished. The echoes of students and teachers faded, replaced by the sounds of construction. Eleven residential and three commercial blocks now stand where Former Macquarie Boys’ Technology High School once stood, a poignant reminder of time’s relentless march.
