Here at the Fletcher Lounge, nestled within the grand halls of the University of Tampa’s Plant Hall, it certainly feels that way. This isn’t just any university lounge. The Fletcher Lounge holds the spirit of Tampa’s glamorous past, a time when Plant Hall wasn’t a place of learning but a luxurious escape known as the Tampa Bay Hotel. Imagine the scene in 1891. Guests in their finest attire dined under the same multiple-domed ceiling you see above, marveling at the grandeur of it all. This was the main dining room, the social heart of the hotel. Today, the Fletcher Lounge, with its gleaming hardwood floors and ethereal atmosphere, has been restored to its former glory. Want to know a secret? While the antique furniture adds to the charm, only two serpentine tables are actually functional. Don’t worry though, the lounge can still comfortably accommodate 230 guests for a formal dinner, conjuring images of grand banquets and whispered conversations.
