Five Dock Park was the first park in the borough. In 1883, 28 acres of land were purchased for 5000 pounds. Today, Five Dock Park is listed on the NSW Heritage Office State Heritage Register.

At the heart of Five Dock Park is The Five Dock War Memorial. The foundation stone for this memorial was laid in 1923. It was renovated and rededicated in 1987. Take a moment to reflect on its significance.

But Five Dock Park is not only about history. It is also a hub of activity. Look around and you will see many recreational facilities. Five Dock Park has something for everyone.

There is a large skate boarding area. A bowling club offers leisurely games. Tennis courts await the next match. An oval is used for junior rugby league matches and cricket. Childcare facilities support young families. An off-leash area provides space for dogs to play.

The skate boarding area has a vibrant past. It was originally constructed in 1979. The park’s skate boarding and BMX area was extremely popular during the 1980s. But it gradually fell into disrepair.

In 2002, the National Skateboarders’ Association nominated Five Dock skate park as one of the worst in NSW. This was because of its poor condition. Calls for its upgrade followed. The new skatepark opened in 2007. It was built next to the old bowl. Mick Mulhall designed it.
