First Brethren Church

Seeking solace and community? The First Brethren Church has offered both to Washington D.C. since 1894. The present building, nestled a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol Building, dates back to 1899. The First Brethren Church is more than just a place of Sunday worship. It’s a vibrant hub for service, simple living, and active peacemaking. This small, inclusive congregation embodies a motto of “Seeking justice, wholeness, and community through the gospel of Jesus.” The First Brethren Church’s location on Capitol Hill makes it easily accessible. It’s near both the Eastern Market and Capitol South Metro stations. The church also hosts the Church of the Brethren Office of Peacebuilding and Policy.
