Did you know the Filipino American Capital Seventh-day Adventist Church started as a small group? Several Filipino families from Sligo Church and other Adventist churches in the area felt a calling. They wanted to establish a church specifically for their community. This is the Filipino American Capital Seventh-day Adventist Church. Its journey began on November 3 1990. Their first service was held in a Potomac Conference extension office building in Takoma Park Maryland.
The Filipino American Capital Seventh-day Adventist Church wasn’t officially established right away. A year later on November 2 1991 they celebrated their first anniversary. Then on July 3 1991 former Potomac Conference President Pastor Ralph Martin conducted a ceremony. This officially designated it as the Filipino Capitol Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Growth was remarkable. The church’s membership soared from 69 chartered members in 1992 to 269 by 2008. This rapid expansion showcased the deep faith and strong community bonds within the congregation. The church moved to a United Methodist Church in College Park Maryland in December 1992. They even purchased land in Beltsville Maryland planning to build their own church. Divine providence however had other plans.
Interestingly in February 2009 the Filipino American Capital Seventh-day Adventist Church found its current home. They rented the former Hana Presbyterian Church. This building on 4216 Powder Mill Road Beltsville Maryland became their new sanctuary. After almost two years of renting the congregation made a significant move. They purchased the property in December 2010 for $1540000.
Today the Filipino American Capital Seventh-day Adventist Church thrives. Special Sabbath services draw 140 to 150 people. Average attendance hovers between 90 and 100. Guests from various locations enrich the services. Their vision is ambitious. They aim to share their faith with everyone. Their mission is straightforward. They strive to make disciples of all ages walking alongside Jesus. The church uses the FIL-AM Discipleship Process to develop mature and committed followers. This process emphasizes fellowship instruction love adoration and ministry. It truly is a testament to faith resilience and community.
