Tucked away on Avenida São Luís, the FIG-Unimesp Campus Vila Rosália isn’t just another university. It’s a testament to Guarulhos’s commitment to education. The FIG-Unimesp story began with the Sociedade Guarulhense de Educação (SOGE). This organization laid the foundation for what would become a renowned center of learning. The journey started with a law school. This was the first in Guarulhos, established in a building that once housed the Colégio Santa Catarina. The law program’s first home was in the Ponte Grande neighborhood. Eventually, it found its permanent residence here at Vila Rosália. Over 57 years, this very campus has produced over 34,200 law graduates. These include esteemed judges, lawyers, and delegates who shape the legal landscape. FIG-Unimesp Campus Vila Rosália has always attracted prominent figures. Early faculty included names like former governor André Franco Montoro, Dr. Paulo José da Costa, Dr. Adolfo de Vasconcellos Noronha, Professor Ary Baddini Tavares, and Dr. José Eduardo de Carvalh Pinto. Their influence helped establish the university’s strong academic reputation. The campus also witnessed the birth of FIG-UNIMESP’s first postgraduate courses, also in law. This further solidified its commitment to advanced studies. The expansion didn’t stop there. FIG-Unimesp Campus Vila Rosália introduced programs in Mathematics, Art Education, Literature, and Biological Sciences, broadening its academic horizons. The Physical Education course holds a special place in the university’s athletic history. They achieved an impressive five-time runner-up position in the Interafe, a prominent competition among physical education colleges in São Paulo. Later, they secured two national championships in Olympic Gymnastics and nine state university championships. Beyond academics, FIG-Unimesp Campus Vila Rosália made strides in legal practice. They inaugurated the External Legal Practice Center and Legal Assistance Office. Patron André Franco Montoro graced the occasion, emphasizing the university’s dedication to practical legal training. The university’s commitment to serving the community is evident in its partnerships. It established the Special Civil Court through a collaboration with the Court of Justice. Later, FIG-Unimesp Campus Vila Rosália added History, Geography, Physical Education (Bachelor’s), and Pedagogy to its program offerings. Its pedagogy program earned national recognition for its excellence. The Administration course at FIG-Unimesp Campus Vila Rosália actively engages in entrepreneurial activities with various institutions. The “Capacitar para Inovar” project stands out. This initiative, a partnership with the Guarulhos Municipality, led to the municipality receiving the “Governador Mário Covas” Award from SEBRAE. The project fostered economic growth in the region by empowering small business owners. It enhanced their market presence and reduced the failure rate of small businesses, ultimately contributing to job creation and income generation. FIG-Unimesp Campus Vila Rosália remains a dynamic hub of learning and innovation. It continues to expand its offerings and engage with the community. It has established itself as a pivotal institution in Guarulhos and beyond.
