Fergusson Intermediate opened in 1966. Sir Bernard Fergusson New Zealand’s Governor General at the time officially opened it. The school proudly carries his clan’s Latin motto Dulcius ex Asperis. It means Sweeter because of Difficulty.
Fergusson Intermediate sits on Hikurangi Street in Trentham Upper Hutt. It is a state co-educational school for Year 7 and 8 students. The school roll was 341 in November 2024.

Simon Kenny is the principal of Fergusson Intermediate. Amy Perkins serves as the Deputy Principal. Anne McPhie manages the office. Together they lead a team of dedicated teachers and support staff.
