Stretching from Princess Margaret Road to Ma Tau Wai Road Fat Kwong Street is a significant artery in Ho Man Tin Kowloon. It wasn’t always so long. Originally a short street in Hung Hom Fat Kwong Street underwent a dramatic transformation in 1967. The government planned a new road link between Hung Hom and Mong Kok. This ambitious project involved connecting Fat Kwong Street to Pui Ching Road.

To achieve this a flyover was constructed over Princess Margaret Road. This impressive feat of engineering cost approximately HK$2.1 million. The project finished in 1970. The new road was built partly to support the growth of government housing developments in Ho Man Tin. It served the burgeoning community. The expansion of Fat Kwong Street facilitated better transport and infrastructure. This improved the lives of many residents.

However Fat Kwong Street’s journey wasn’t without challenges. In September 1970 landslides closed its eastern section. Major repairs were necessary. The road remained closed until June 1971. The delays caused inconvenience and disruption. Yet the resilience of the community shone through. Fat Kwong Street reopened stronger than before.

Today Fat Kwong Street measures approximately 1.45 kilometers long. The Hong Kong government classifies it as a district distributor road. It plays a crucial role in the area’s infrastructure. It connects many other smaller streets. Many roads intersect with Fat Kwong Street. These include Princess Margaret Road Pui Ching Road Sheung Shing Street and many more. Fat Kwong Street serves as a vital link in Ho Man Tin’s network of roads. It stands as a testament to Hong Kong’s growth and development. It is a physical representation of the city’s ever-changing landscape. It silently observes the flow of life and history in Hong Kong.
