It all began on September 25 1988. A small group of pioneers shared a vision a strong desire for a church community. This core group wasn’t content to just dream. They acted. They tirelessly worked to make their dream a reality. They started as a mission congregation. This meant holding services in different locations. Olney Elementary School Sandy Spring Friends School Belmont Elementary School and Sherwood High School each temporarily housed their growing congregation.

The Faith Presbyterian Church of Olney wasn’t just a building. It was a symbol of their perseverance. Their unwavering dedication to their shared faith blossomed. Their growth and unwavering dedication led to a momentous occasion. On March 20 1994 they officially became a fully organized church.

A major step forward came on January 7 1995. They purchased their first plot of land at 17309 Old Baltimore Road. This wasn’t just a purchase. It was a statement a commitment to building a lasting presence in Olney. The “Building With Living Stones” banquet on October 2 1998 signified the start of their fundraising campaign. They even bought a second parcel next to the first on May 7 1999. Construction began in 2002. Finally in June 2003 the congregation held their first service in their own building.

Their story also includes the arrival of Pastor Bill Sutherland in 2005. He’s been a guiding presence ever since. He’s led the congregation and helped continue the church’s growth and impact on the community. The Faith Presbyterian Church of Olney isn’t just a place of worship.
