Journalism’s pulse beats strong here at Faculdade Cásper Líbero. Founded in 1947 by Cásper Líbero this college stands as Latin America’s oldest journalism school. It began in 1943 but legislative hurdles delayed its opening.
Imagine Cásper Líbero himself a visionary journalist and businessman. He modernized the newspaper A Gazeta. He united ethical journalism with new technologies. Líbero transformed the paper into Brazil’s first color-printed newspaper.
Cásper Líbero also inaugurated the Palácio da Imprensa. This was the first building to house all aspects of newspaper production. This included editing engraving composition printing and distribution. He also launched PRA-6 Rádio Gazeta. It featured major names in Brazilian opera.
Admiring sports he created A Gazeta Esportiva. It became Latin America’s most comprehensive sports newspaper. Líbero conceived the Corrida de São Silvestre. This is the world’s largest and most famous footrace. He also created the Prova Ciclística 9 de Julho. It is Brazil’s most traditional cycling race.
Tragically Cásper Líbero died in a plane accident in 1943. He left his estate to create a foundation. It would support a just society through education and communication. The Fundação Cásper Líbero was born in 1944.
Following Cásper’s wishes the foundation created Brazil’s first journalism school. Today Faculdade Cásper Líbero also offers courses in advertising public relations and radio TV and internet. These complement social communication studies.
The college occupies four floors of a building on Avenida Paulista. It preserves the Prof. José Geraldo Vieira library. It holds 49000 books 580 periodicals and 4270 films. Students use editing suites with audio and video software. They learn in radio and TV labs plus digital photo labs.
Faculdade Cásper Líbero also has postgraduate programs and an interdisciplinary research center. It offers free university extension courses. Folha de S. Paulo ranked it as Brazil’s best private communications school.
Since 1958 Faculdade Cásper Líbero has been located at Avenida Paulista 900. Its curriculum includes journalism advertising public relations and radio TV and internet. It emphasizes ethical training professional skills and connections to the job market.
The college values ethics citizenship human values and social responsibility. Its tower was designed by Gian Carlo Gasperini. It stands 103 meters tall. It has been an Avenida Paulista landmark since 1983.
The library began in 1948. It was named after Prof. José Geraldo Vieira in 1977. The library provides spaces for both individual and group study.
