Do you see the tall, white building on the corner? That’s the Evangelische Kirchengemeinde Leverkusen-Schlebusch, standing tall and proud in the middle of Schlebusch. This building is filled with stories of faith and community, spanning over a century.

It all began in 1907 when Heinrich Theodor Wuppermann, a prominent businessman and Schlebusch citizen, left a generous donation of 10,000 Marks to the church community. This gift was the catalyst for the construction of the first community building. With additional contributions from Eduard Rhodius and Carl Leverkus, the cornerstone was laid in 1911, and the building was proudly inaugurated on November 14th, 1912.

The building was witness to the changing tides of history, surviving the devastation of both world wars. The community hall was rebuilt in 1920, only to be damaged again during World War II. Thanks to donations and perseverance, the building was restored and opened its doors to the community in 1949. Over the years, the building underwent several renovations, the most significant of which was in 1986 when a new wing was added with modern features and updates like an elevator. This expansion accommodated the growing community and allowed for diverse groups to gather in one place.

Today, the Evangelische Kirchengemeinde Leverkusen-Schlebusch serves as a vibrant hub for the community, hosting everything from music rehearsals to youth activities to cultural events. It’s a testament to the legacy of faith and the spirit of community that has shaped this building over the years.
