Established in July 1986, Europharm Laboratoires has become a cornerstone of Hong Kong’s pharmaceutical industry. Its sprawling facility in Tai Po Industrial Estate, a testament to its growth and dedication, houses the production of various medications. Europharm Laboratoires’ commitment to quality is evident in its GMP certification, obtained in 2001. This certification underscores their meticulous control and monitoring of the entire production process. It assures that their facility meets international standards. Beyond GMP, Europharm Laboratoires achieved full compliance with PIC/S Good Manufacturing Practice guidelines in 2016. This further elevates their quality standards. Europharm Laboratoires produces a wide range of pharmaceuticals. Their products include solutions (both oral and topical), tablets, capsules, powders, syrups, and suppositories. Over 300 employees contribute to their production, quality control, sales, and administration. However, the journey of Europharm Laboratoires hasn’t been without its challenges. In early 2009, a contamination incident involving their Purinol tablets occurred. The contamination, traced back to bacteria in the raw materials, necessitated the urgent replacement of medication for over 4,000 people. Tragically, this incident led to the deaths of eight individuals already battling pre-existing conditions. Europharm Laboratoires accepted responsibility, pleading guilty to selling unsuitable drugs for human consumption and paying a fine of HK$20 million. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the critical importance of stringent quality control in the pharmaceutical industry. Europharm Laboratoires has persevered. They continue to play a significant role in providing essential medications to the people of Hong Kong.
