“Can you imagine building a stadium with your own two hands?” I ask, gesturing towards Estúdio Parque São Jorge. “That’s exactly what Corinthians fans did back in the 1920s!” This stadium, formally known as Estádio Alfredo Schürig, but affectionately called Fazendinha, or “Little Farm”, embodies the spirit of Corinthians. Back then, the club had purchased land in Tatuapé, but lacked funds to build. So, they made a deal with their fans. Want to be a member? Help build the stadium. The fans, brimming with passion, rallied together. Stone by stone, beam by beam, Estúdio Parque São Jorge rose from the earth, a testament to their devotion. Inaugurated on July 22, 1928, the stadium hosted its first match, a 2-2 draw between Corinthians and America do Rio de Janeiro. It became the Corinthians’ home in the early 1940s. The stadium witnessed incredible moments. Imagine the roar of the crowd in 1962 when Santos beat Corinthians 2-1, setting the stadium’s attendance record of 27,384. Picture the electrifying energy during the 1963 Pan American Games, where Brazil trounced the US 10-0. Estúdio Parque São Jorge has been a cornerstone of Corinthians’ history. Although the team now plays in larger venues, Fazendinha remains a symbol of the club’s humble beginnings and the unwavering dedication of its fans. This “Little Farm” nurtured a giant. It’s a place where the spirit of Corinthians was forged.
