In 1996 Corinthians and Santos played Campeonato Brasileiro games here. Santos even played Supercopa Libertadores matches at the stadium.

The stadium was not just for local teams. São Paulo played a Campeonato Paulista match here in 1997. Between the 1970s and 1990s the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior was held here. Teams like Portuguesa Grêmio and Santos competed.

Beyond sports Estádio Ícaro de Castro Melo has hosted unforgettable musical events. On June 27 1992 Black Sabbath performed here with Dio on vocals. Viper opened for them. In 1995 Elton John brought his Made in England tour to the stadium. Later that year Bon Jovi played for 35000 people.

The Estádio Ícaro de Castro Melo also hosted the Festival Skol Rock in 1997. This festival featured Jason Bonham Band Dio Bruce Dickinson and Scorpions. It was initially planned for Estádio do Canindé.

Today Estádio Ícaro de Castro Melo continues to host athletic events. It is a reminder of the stadium’s diverse past. The venue has adapted to different purposes. It remains a significant landmark in São Paulo.
