In early 1986, it was renamed Escola Estadual de Primeiro Grau Jornalista Rodrigo Soares Júnior. Finally, around April 1999, it became the Escola Estadual Jornalista Rodrigo Soares Júnior we know today. The school’s name honors Rodrigo Soares Júnior, a prominent journalist and lawyer. Born in São Paulo in 1896, he served as the honorary president of the Diário Popular newspaper. His philosophy on journalism emphasized the vital role it plays in communication and connection between people and social classes. He believed in fighting for a newspaper that truly belonged to São Paulo. The school has witnessed generations of students pass through its doors, many of whom found employment in the local area.
