“A lifetime resident of Carlingford”. That’s the inscription that greets you at Eric Mobbs Memorial Park. This park commemorates Alderman Eric Mobbs.
Eric Mobbs was a local identity. He dedicated his life to the community. He served on the Parramatta Council.
Eric Mobbs Memorial Park is more than just a green space. It’s a tribute to a man. This man dedicated himself to local government.
Eric Mobbs was born on November 23, 1891. He passed away on October 4, 1974. Eric Mobbs was a former mayor. He served Parramatta and Dundas. These were separate before amalgamation.
The park features a plaque. It recognises Eric Mobbs’ service. He served the community. He served local government.
The Eric Mobbs Memorial Park is located at 356 Marsden Road, Carlingford. It’s a place for reflection. It is a place to remember a dedicated public servant.
But that is not all you can do here. The park also provides access to the Platypus Track. The Platypus Track starts behind Eric Mobbs Reserve. The walk is just over 2kms.
The Platypus Track is a favourite bushwalk. It feels a million miles away from the suburbs. Wildflowers bloom here in spring.
The track goes down into a valley. It goes back up again. It is more suited to kids 4 years and older.
Eric Mobbs Reserve serves as a gateway to the Platypus Track. There is a fenced playground here. The playground has a good mix of equipment. It is suited for a range of ages. There is also natural shade. A picnic table is nearby.
There are toilets and BBQs at Eric Mobbs Reserve. Four sportsfields are also available. It can get busy on weekends. Especially when sports games are played.
To get to Platypus Track walk between sports fields 1 and 2. Head towards the toilets. Follow the road down the hill. Once at the gate, go right. You will then see the sign for the Platypus Track.
The track is a loop. Go right of the sign. This way takes you slowly down via stairs. There is a short climb at the end. Follow the blue platypus track signs. Otherwise, you will end up on a longer path.
You will eventually reach the Darling Mills Creek. It’s a great place for a play and picnic. The path from here is pretty flat. It is narrow in parts. There is also access to the creek.
Cross a bridge. After a while, you will come to a fork in the path. Go on the stepping stones across the creek. The blue Platypus Track markers start up again here. There is a steep hill to get back to the start.
It usually takes about 2 hours to complete the loop. This includes stops along the way.
Eric Mobbs Memorial Park is a special place. It remembers a local hero. It also provides access to a beautiful bushwalk. It’s a place to reflect. It’s a place to enjoy nature. It’s a place to appreciate the beauty of the Carlingford area.
