Epping Church Of Christ has a rich Christian heritage. The church celebrated its centenary in July of 2023. Many gathered for a weekend of thanksgiving. They celebrated the church’s life and ministry.
The Saturday evening dinner saw almost 200 people enjoying fellowship. Friends reconnected and shared stories from the past. The Don Moore Community Centre hosted the event. Epping Church had previously held missions there. A video presentation relived happy memories. These included church picnics and concerts. Anniversaries and musicals over the decades were also shown.
The chapel was decorated with daffodils for Sunday morning’s Centenary Celebration Service. The service was full to overflow. Rich singing and worship brought praise to God. Younger people took part in various roles. Communion had a central focus.
Justin Campbell is the current Senior Pastor. He interviewed three previous pastors about their time at Epping Church Of Christ. The pastors were Keith Farmer, David Moyes and Larry Galbraith. Their reflections included the strong faith of believers. They mentioned the heart for mission and outreach. The focus was on the people and the blessing of God.
Following the cake cutting, everyone gathered for morning tea. Many spoke of a sense of coming home. This highlighted the value of belonging within the church family.
Epping Church Of Christ is part of Churches of Christ NSW & ACT. This is a network of churches across two states. They are passionate about unity, restoration, and life in Jesus.
Churches of Christ began in the 19th century. The movement originated in the United Kingdom and the United States. It sought the mind of Christ for His Church. Returning to New Testament Christianity was key. This meant breaking down denominational barriers. It meant being the church Christ would have us be.
Today, there are congregations in more than 178 countries. There are over one hundred Churches of Christ in NSW.
Epping Church Of Christ follows key characteristics. These include a concern for Christian Unity. It also includes a commitment to Evangelism and Mission. Another key is an emphasis on the New Testament. They have a simple Confession of Faith. They practice Believers’ Baptism and Weekly Communion. The church has a Biblical Name. They value Congregational autonomy and Lay Leadership. They also embrace Diversity.
Epping Church Of Christ strives to be a thriving all age cross-cultural church. It offers heartfelt gratitude to God for His blessing. The church looks forward to what God will do in the future. All will be for His glory.
