“Dedicated in 1971” A generous donation from the Henry Luce Foundation made it all possible. This is the Elisabeth Luce Moore Library. It stands as a testament to the power of philanthropy. It’s a significant part of Chung Chi College at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

The Elisabeth Luce Moore Library wasn’t always here. Its journey began in 1951. It started modestly at St John’s Cathedral Library. Then it moved to the Ma Liu Shui campus in 1956. Finally it found its permanent home in 1971. This current building is thanks to the Luce Foundation. Mrs Elisabeth Luce Moore herself dedicated this building. She was Mr Henry Luce’s sister.

The Elisabeth Luce Moore Library boasts impressive collections. These go beyond the usual university fare. It holds significant music and religion archives. These are considered among the most important in Southeast Asia. The Rulan Chao Pian Music Collection is a treasure. It includes musical instruments.
