“The cornerstone whispers secrets of 1931” This is the Église Néo-Apostolique in Strasbourg. Its story unfolds before you.
The building you see stands as a testament to faith. It is a place of worship for the New Apostolic Church community. Architect Frédéric Keck designed this structure. He was based at 16 Rue Saint-Fiacre at the time. The initial plans included a meeting room on the ground floor and a gallery upstairs.
Construction started between 1931 and 1932. The project involved a firm called Nuss based in Cronenbourg. Ch Rudmann handled the complex concrete calculations. The New Apostolic Church received building permits on September 21 1931. Final acceptance was on September 21 1932. The architect himself was present at the ceremony.
The Église Néo-Apostolique’s life didn’t stop there. In 1949 a garage was added. Frédéric Ihl was the architect overseeing this expansion. The garage was enlarged in 1968. A new meeting room was also created on the first floor. During that extension work it was revealed that the plot of land measured 800 square meters. Raymond Krieg’s architectural firm was the main contractor. Work was completed on December 1 1969.
Years passed. The building needed updating. A comprehensive two-year renovation took place from 2012 to 2014. Christian Erb headed this project. The renovation included accessibility improvements for people with disabilities. Open house days were held in April 2015. A presentation featured images of the original 1931 construction.
