“EFCC-IC is a member church,” a phrase that echoes the collaborative spirit of the Evangelical Free Church of China. Today we explore the story of EFCC Taikoo Shing Church. It stands as a testament to faith and community.
The Evangelical Free Church of China first took root in 1887. Missionaries from the Evangelical Free Church of America established it in China. After the Second World War, the base moved to Hong Kong. This relocation marked a new chapter. The church continued its mission in a different land.
EFCC Taikoo Shing Church emerged in 1991. It started through the vision of the Evangelical Free Church of China. The Tai Koo Shing Church played a vital role. Pastor Charles Crabtree, an American missionary, became its first pastor. His leadership set the foundation for the church.
In 1994, a significant milestone occurred. Pastor Paul E Snuffer was called as the first full-time pastor. He began his ministry in February 1995. Under his guidance, the church flourished. In 1996, EFCC Taikoo Shing Church became an independent member of EFCC. It demonstrated its growth and self-sufficiency. The church then planted an English-speaking church in Discovery Bay. This church, known as Discovery Bay International Community Church, also became independent.
Pastor David J Magee then served from 1998 to 2008. During his tenure, the church moved its worship services. Lingnan Secondary School became the new venue. A strong mission focus was nurtured. The church also planted a Cantonese-speaking church named Joyous Grace.
Rev. Dr. Barry Davis took over as Senior Pastor in February 2010. Before ministry, Pastor Barry had experience in the aerospace industry. He also served as an Associate Professor. Pastor Barry continued to build the church. He guided Joyous Grace to become an independent member of EFCC. In 2016, upon his retirement, an Elder served as interim pastor.
Vincent Kan, a member since the beginning and a longtime Elder, became pastor in 2016. He served until September 2021. His long-term commitment showcased his dedication.
In October 2021, Pastor KK Ip joined as Senior Pastor. He leads EFCC Taikoo Shing Church into its next chapter.
