“ECG,” a name that resonates with faith. The Enlightened Christian Gathering stands as a testament to the power of belief. This church, founded by Shepherd Bushiri, has grown into a global phenomenon. It all began in Mzuzu Malawi in 2008.

The ECG’s journey is one of rapid expansion. From its humble beginnings it has reached numerous countries. These include South Africa, Malawi, Ghana, South Sudan, and Zambia. The church’s influence extends far beyond its physical locations.

Shepherd Bushiri’s leadership has propelled the ECG into the spotlight. He has been featured on prominent media outlets such as the BBC and Al Jazeera. This coverage has further amplified the church’s message and reach.

In its early days the ECG was headquartered in Mzuzu. In 2021 it moved to Lilongwe due to increasing attendance. This relocation reflected the church’s growing popularity and influence. Then in February 2022, an announcement came. The church’s name would change to Kingdom Financing Ministries International.

Not all has been smooth sailing for the ECG. In 2018, the church faced closure in Botswana. This was due to violations of local laws prohibiting miracle money. This incident highlighted the challenges the church faces in navigating different legal systems.

Tragedy struck the ECG in December 2018. A stampede at a church event resulted in three deaths and several injuries. The incident occurred as people tried to escape a thunderstorm. Bushiri’s spokesman stated that the ECG belonged to South Africa and South Africans and that the deaths were a matter for the church to deal with.

Despite these challenges the ECG has continued to thrive. Bushiri’s television station and social media presence attract over 100000 viewers. These platforms allow the church to connect with its followers.

The ECG’s largest gatherings take place on New Year’s Eve. These events are held at FNB Stadium in South Africa. In both 2016 and 2017, over 95000 people attended. The FNB Stadium is the largest stadium in Africa. It provides a fitting venue for these massive celebrations of faith.

Even security has been a concern for the ECG. In 2023, the church was robbed at gunpoint in Mpumalanga. This incident underscored the need for vigilance and security measures.

The ECG’s story is one of growth resilience and global impact. From its origins in Malawi to its international presence the church has touched many lives. Despite facing controversies and tragedies the Enlightened Christian Gathering continues to be a beacon of faith.
