“Meet me at East York Town Centre”. That’s what my friend said. East York Town Centre stands as a vital community hub. It offers a blend of retail and office spaces. This complex provides convenient one-stop shopping.

Originally known as Thorncliffe Market Place it opened in 1960. The shopping center was located in the town of Leaside. Before 1954 this area was part of the Thorncliffe Park Raceway. The shopping center started with two anchor stores Sayvette and Steinberg’s.

Sayvette closed in 1977. Woolco then occupied the space. Walmart acquired Woolco in 1994. Later Zellers took over this location.

In June 2012 Zellers closed its doors. Target entered the Canadian market. Construction began in December 2012. The new Target store opened on March 25 2013. However Target Canada closed all its stores.

The East York Town Centre location was included. The Thorncliffe Bowlerama closed in mid-2016. Fit4Less replaced it.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 the former Target became a pop-up vaccine clinic. East York Town Centre continues to adapt to community needs.

Today East York Town Centre has over 100 stores and services. Food Basics and Shoppers Drug Mart serve as anchor tenants. The retail floor area spans 360045 square feet. The former Target location now houses several shops.

East York Town Centre has two floors. One floor is the main level. The other floor hosts offices and a banquet hall.

Morguard manages and owns East York Town Centre. It welcomes over 3.5 million shoppers each year. The primary trade area boasts a population of nearly 60000. The average household income is around $109790.

East York Town Centre operates with convenient hours. Monday to Friday it is open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.. Saturday hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.. Sunday it is open from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m..
