Wall eventually departed Dagens Nyheter. Soon after, the newspaper became associated with the Liberal Party. Herbert Tingsten served as executive editor from 1946 to 1959. Since 1909, the Bonnier Group has owned the newspaper. Karl Otto Bonnier acquired the remaining shares his family didn’t already own.
Dagens Nyheter’s headquarters were once in the “DN-skrapan”. This translates to the DN skyscraper or Dagens Nyheter Tower. Architect Paul Hedqvist designed it. The tower, completed in 1964, stands 84 meters tall. It has 27 floors.
In 1996, Dagens Nyheter moved to Gjörwellsgatan. This location is near the old tower. Expressen, another Bonnier Group newspaper, is also located in this building.
Dagens Nyheter once boasted a higher circulation than other Swedish dailies in the 1960s. It remains the morning newspaper with the largest circulation. It is followed by Göteborgs-Posten and Svenska Dagbladet. DN is the only morning paper distributed nationwide to subscribers.
In 2001, its circulation was 361,000 copies. By 2005, weekday circulation stood at 363,100 copies. However, it declined to 292,300 copies in 2010. In 2013, the print edition had a circulation of 282,800. This reached about 758,000 people daily. The online edition averaged around 1.5 million unique visitors weekly in 2013.
