Once upon a time whispers echoed through these platforms. They spoke of resilience and transformation at Dworzec PKP Warszawa Włochy. This station stands not just as a point of transit. It is a testament to Warsaw’s enduring spirit.
Dworzec PKP Warszawa Włochy is located in the Włochy district. It marks a crucial junction on railway lines 1 and 3. From here trains head towards Łódź on Line 1 or Poznań on Line 3. The station features two platforms. They are linked by an underground pedestrian tunnel. You will also find a station building equipped with ticket machines and bicycle parking.
The station’s history stretches back to 1845. Back then the Warsaw–Vienna railway was built. However the exact opening date of Dworzec PKP Warszawa Włochy remains unknown. In 1932 the “Siła i Światło” company extended the EKD. That is the Elektryczna Kolej Dojazdowa, an electric commuter railway. It connected Warsaw to Grodzisk Mazowiecki. A branch line led to Włochy which was then a satellite city. The line terminated near the modern station’s location. A waiting hall, pedestrian tunnel and ticket offices were constructed.
This railway proved vital for Włochy’s industrial growth. It supported clay mining, brick production and supplied workers to the Ursus factories.
During World War II the railway faced severe disruptions. German forces damaged the line in September 1939. Operations resumed before 1940. After the Warsaw Uprising the Nazis used the railway to transport prisoners. They were sent to the Dulag 121 camp in Pruszków. Workers sabotaged these transports. In 1945 the retreating German forces rendered the railway inoperational again.
Repairs followed after the war. Service restarted in April 1945. The operator lacked funds. It was placed under “special observation” by communists. It was nationalized in 1947. It became Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa which still operates today. A new Warszawa Włochy PKP station emerged around that time.
In 1962 the WKD Włochy terminus station closed. It temporarily housed the Polish State Railways. The station was rebuilt in the early 1970s. This happened during a major overhaul of the Warsaw Railway Node.
A significant renovation occurred in 2017 as part of the railway line 447 modernization. New passenger information systems were installed. Platforms were lowered and repaved. Lifts now connect the platforms to the pedestrian tunnel. A glass shelter was erected on platform 1. Remnants of a 1950s schedule and platform markings were unearthed. They will be displayed as museum pieces.
Today Dworzec PKP Warszawa Włochy serves Old and New Włochy. It offers convenient access to the city center. It also links to the broader Warsaw Agglomeration. Masovian Railways provide regional services. Trains run to Skierniewice, Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Siedlce, Łowicz, Sochaczew and Celestynów. The municipal Rapid Urban Rail (SKM) connects to Pruszków and Otwock. Approximately 220 trains stop here daily. They transport over 3600 passengers according to 2022 data.
