It’s designed with sustainability in mind, from the recycled materials used in construction to the solar panels generating power. A remarkable 68% of the exterior surfaces utilize recycled materials. A whopping 89% of the building materials come from within 800km of Hong Kong. The station boasts high-efficiency AC systems and LED lighting, resulting in a 19% annual energy saving. This translates to 26,130kWh per year, equivalent to 18.2 tonnes less CO2 emission. Adding to its green credentials, solar panels cover an area equal to 21% of the building’s footprint. Water efficiency is another key feature. Low-flow fixtures save 38% of potable water annually. They also reduce sewage volume by 52%. Even the wastewater is recycled for irrigation. This eliminates the need for potable water for this purpose. Leakage sensors stand guard, ready to alert staff of any potential water loss. The DSD Heung Yuen Wai Sewage Pumping Station achieves a “Good” rating for indoor air quality, minimizing VOCs, formaldehyde, and radon.
