Hidden amidst the picturesque landscape, where the Vltava River gracefully winds its way, lies the charming village of Dolany nad Vltavou. Dolany nad Vltavou first appeared in historical records in 1318. Originally simply known as Dolany, the village acquired its current name, Dolany nad Vltavou, in 2016. This change not only distinguished it from other villages with the same name but also highlighted its close relationship with the Vltava River. The river has shaped the village’s history and identity. Dolany nad Vltavou is located approximately 17 kilometers southeast of Mělník and just 13 kilometers north of Prague. It sits within the Prague Plateau, on the left bank of the Vltava. Here, the river’s rocky valley gives way to the plains. These plains are characteristic of the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe rivers. Dolany nad Vltavou boasts a rich history. Within its boundaries lies the village of Debrno, nestled about 2 kilometers southwest in the valley of Turský potok. Debrno itself is a treasure trove of historical architecture. Its well-preserved center showcases homesteads dating back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Many of these buildings retain charming modifications from the turn of the 20th century. The village’s historic core is recognized and protected as a village monument zone. A key feature of Dolany nad Vltavou is its convenient railway connection. The train line connecting Prague to Ústí nad Labem runs through the village. This railway access has undoubtedly contributed to the village’s development and accessibility. In 2002, Dolany nad Vltavou experienced a significant flood. The waters of the Vltava rose dramatically, impacting the lives of the residents and leaving a mark on the village’s collective memory. Despite this setback, the village has persevered, its history and identity interwoven with the ebb and flow of the river.
