Whispers of laughter and applause echo through time, leading us to the Divadlo Horní Počernice. This unassuming building holds a richer history than meets the eye. Did you know that Divadlo Horní Počernice wasn’t always a theatre? This space began its life in the 1940s as a simple cinema, known as Kino Oko. It entertained generations with flickering images on the silver screen throughout the latter half of the 20th century. In 1997, a wave of renovation swept through, giving the building a fresh face and a new name: Kino Max. But its time as a cinema was drawing to a close. The dawn of the new millennium found Kino Max struggling. By 2003, it was entrusted to the care of the Kulturní centrum Domeček. Between 2004 and 2006, another transformation took place, a rebirth. The old cinema was meticulously reconstructed, emerging as the Divadlo Horní Počernice we see today. Its grand opening in 2006 marked a new chapter. Today, Divadlo Horní Počernice isn’t just a stage for plays. It’s a vibrant hub for all sorts of cultural events, from concerts to art exhibitions, even corporate gatherings. The main hall, with its flat floor and massive wooden paneling, resonates with the energy of diverse performances. The clever lighting design, with fixtures echoing the lines of the supporting pillars, adds to the theatre’s unique charm. The blue, green, and orange color scheme of the auditorium creates an inviting atmosphere. The stage, framed by dark wood, stands ready to showcase the magic of theatre. Even as recently as 2014, the Divadlo Horní Počernice underwent renovations. This ensures its continued role as a cultural gem in Prague. The Divadlo Horní Počernice stands as a testament to the power of transformation, a place where the past and present intertwine to create a vibrant future.
