The Discovery Bay Alliance Church stands before you a testament to faith and community. Its story begins not in grand cathedrals but in the hearts of a small group. Niels and Ann Kransoe along with a few Discovery Bay residents founded the church in 1983. Their first service a humble gathering was held on October 30 1983.
Imagine the excitement the sense of shared purpose. These early pioneers laid the foundation for what would become a vibrant center of worship. The first Sunday school classes started soon after in November 1983. Services initially took place in the Discovery Bay Residents’ Club. As the congregation grew they moved to the Discovery Bay International School in 1987.
The church’s growth wasn’t just about numbers. It was about solidifying its identity. In 1985 the AGM approved the church constitution. A pivotal moment formalizing their structure. The following year Discovery Bay Church became officially recognized as a society exempted from registration under the Societies Ordinance in Hong Kong. This was a significant legal milestone for the growing church.
The next chapter saw Discovery Bay Church become a daughter church of St John’s Cathedral in 1990. Father Rob Gillian became the first appointed Priest-in-Charge. The church continued to adapt and evolve finding a new home at the SKH Wei Lun Primary School in 1994. Over the years several Priests-in-Charge have guided the congregation. Each contributing to its unique character and legacy.
The Discovery Bay Alliance Church isn’t just a building. It’s a living organism a reflection of the community it serves. It’s a story of growth adaptation and unwavering faith. A story written by those who sought solace support and community in the heart of Discovery Bay. It’s a church that has adapted moved and grown alongside the community it serves for nearly four decades.
