Here stands the Devil’s Fist. It is a rock formation at the end of Wong Chuk Kok Tsui. This place is in Plover Cove Country Park.

Devil’s Fist got its name from its unique shape. It resembles a clenched fist rising from the sea. The journey here is as impressive as the destination itself. It is one of Hong Kong’s iconic hiking routes.

Old-timers considered this a stamina test because of its distance. The route offers varied colored rocks. The red rocks are the most impressive. They sit within a sheltered bay with clear water.

For years hikers talked about the path that connects Plover Cove Reservoir trail. It connects with this remote rocky feature. The path around the reservoir is clear and well-hiked. There are continued ups and downs. Some areas are slightly sandy and slippery. There is not much shade.

Eventually, you need to leave that path. Then you get to the wilder one heading to the Devil’s Fist. The trail can be bushy and loose. Be careful going down to the coastline. Find the rocky features and head back in the opposite direction.

The high scrambling is minimal. It is well protected from swell. The hiking paths are relatively clear. This route is extremely long and with no easy escape options. Prepare well before attempting it.

You might consider doing only half of it. You can also start with a boat. This spot became well-known since 2020. People go there directly with speedboats from Tai Mei Tuk or Wong Shek pier.

The rocks here have very intense colors. They are red, yellow, purple and black. Once you turn into the bay the rocks become redder. The water below is pristine.

Hiking to Devil’s Fist is a challenge. There is a risk of injury if you are not careful. The trail constantly goes up and down. Some sections are overgrown. Steep paths are filled with small stones. These can be very slippery.

The trails are mainly visible and well-marked with ribbons. But it is best to visit Devil’s Fist by boat.

Also note that exits are hard to reach if you are injured along the trail. The distance is long. Start your hike early. Expect it to be at least 12 hours long.

Bring plenty of hydration. Two to three liters of water is recommended. Bring extra power drinks. Food is important too. Rice, energy gels, and snacks are recommended. Trekking poles are a huge help during long-distance hikes.

Check the tides before planning to hike Devil’s Fist. The rock formation may not be visible during high tide. Plan the hike during cooler weather.

The last stretch is to Tai Leng. Here you can find a pile of rocks. There is a Chinese signpost from the Qi Dynasty Wong Chuk Kok Watch Base. Then it is a steep descent down towards the coastline.

Once at the coastline, climb over the rocky sections on the left. Head towards the Devil’s Fist. Scrambling along the coastline takes about ten minutes. Depending on the tides, you might traverse along some big rocks. This is before you get to the cove where Devil’s Fist is located.

Remember do not climb onto the Devil’s Fist while taking pictures. The natural wonder is part of the Hong Kong National Geopark. It holds some of the oldest rocks in Hong Kong. Its geological significance adds another layer to its appeal.
