The Deutsche Teilung und Wiedervereinigung Stele represents the division and reunification of Germany. The planning for the bridge began in 1989. It was initially named Talaverabrücke. Realization started in 1990. On October 3, 1992, the Brücke der Deutschen Einheit opened. It was a small celebration two years after reunification.
Otmar Kleindienst created this sculpture. It was erected on the Brücke der Deutschen Einheit Würzburg during the Landesgartenschau 1990. Ministerpräsident Max Streibl inaugurated it in 1992. The Deutsche Teilung und Wiedervereinigung Stele embodies German division and reunification.

Oktober 1990”. These words capture the despair of division. They also celebrate the triumph of freedom.
