Doesn’t he look lonely? This sculpture, Der Blick nach Sorquitten, stands here by the Dorfteich. It is next to the Friesenkapelle in Wenningstedt.
Der Blick nach Sorquitten is part of a larger art project. It is one of the Alltagsmenschen figures by artists Christel and Laura Lechner. These figures pop up in surprising places here in Wenningstedt-Braderup. Around twenty Alltagsmenschen populate the area. They bring smiles to many faces.
This particular figure is a fisherman. He gazes thoughtfully toward Sorquitten. The Kirchengemeinde Norddörfer placed him here. This was to honor their long friendship. They have a partner parish in Sorquitten, Poland. The Polish town features a similar sculpture.
The Alltagsmenschen sculptures encourage interaction. You can pose for photos with them. Get up close. Observe them from every angle.
The artists reinforce these figures to withstand the elements. The “Mädelsabend” installation featured reinforced figures. They needed to be robust for the Sylt season. Metal went into the figures. It went all the way to their fingertips.
Henning Sieverts appreciates the Alltagsmenschen. He notes how much joy they bring. Both visitors and locals enjoy them.
The Friesenkapelle is also worth a visit. It is right here. It was consecrated in 1914. The church is known for its Friesen-style ceiling paintings. They depict eleven biblical scenes.
