Can a church defy prophecy? The Deliverance Church of Christ stands as a testament to faith’s resilience. Deliverance Church of Christ began in 1968, in a small house in Carmody Hills, Maryland. A prophecy declared the church wasn’t God’s will. Yet, Reverend Robert Joseph Patton trusted his divine calling. He persevered, and the Deliverance Church of Christ flourished. The church grew quickly in its first year. In 1976, Deliverance Church of Christ moved into a larger building. This expansion allowed even more people to join the congregation. The church continued to grow and thrive under Reverend Patton’s leadership. The church’s reach extended beyond Maryland. In 1979, Deliverance Church of Christ #2 opened in Buckingham County, Virginia. Reverend Patton pastored both churches, traveling between states. The growth continued. Deliverance Church of Christ #3 was established in Washington, D.C. in 1983. It’s currently known as Harvest Life Fellowship. Pressing Towards the Mark, Church #4, followed in 1990 in Hyattsville, Maryland. Deliverance Church of Christ continued to expand its ministry. Deliverance Fellowship of Believers, Church #5, briefly joined the organization in 1994. Reverend Bobby G. Holmes became pastor of the original Deliverance Church of Christ in Carmody Hills, Maryland, in 1993. The Deliverance Church of Christ stands as proof of Reverend Patton’s faith. It overcame early challenges to become a beacon of faith in the community and beyond.
