In 1986 a small storefront on Hillsborough Avenue pulsed with the fervent energy of Deeper Life Christian Church. Thirty members began a journey that would reshape their lives and the Tampa community. This humble beginning marked the genesis of Deeper Life Ministries a testament to faith and perseverance.
Bishop M B Jefferson and Dr Brenda Jefferson led this burgeoning church. Their dedication fueled its growth. Deeper Life Ministries thrived under their stewardship. In 1993 the congregation moved to a new building on Nebraska Avenue. This expanded facility became the national headquarters for Deeper Life Ministries. It also housed the House of David Help Centers and World Assemblies Fellowship International.
The church’s outreach extended far beyond Tampa. Bishop and Dr Jefferson established over 70 affiliate churches. These churches spanned the United States Africa and the Caribbean. Their commitment to evangelism and discipleship touched countless lives. But the path was not without its trials. Deeper Life Ministries faced accusations of financial mismanagement and legal battles. A food stamp fraud conviction led to probation and fines. Several tragic van accidents claimed the lives of church members.
Despite setbacks Deeper Life Ministries persevered. The Jeffersons remained steadfast in their faith. They shifted their focus to worship services and youth programs. They moved their main services to a more affluent area. The Nebraska Avenue building stands empty now a silent witness to its bustling past. However Deeper Life Ministries continues to operate in the Tampa Bay area. The legacy of Deeper Life Ministries is one of both triumph and tribulation a story interwoven with faith controversy and enduring community impact. It stands as a reminder that even amidst adversity the spirit of faith can remain strong. You are standing before a place where faith devotion and controversy intertwined to shape a unique chapter in Tampa’s history.
