Enclosed by whispering pines, Davisville stands as a testament to time. Here at 63-67 Falls Road in Wentworth Falls, this grand house has seen much since its beginnings in 1888. David Davis, a Sydney builder, envisioned a holiday home amidst the Blue Mountains. He constructed Davisville, then simply his namesake retreat, using materials salvaged from older houses. This adds a layer of mystery to its interior, a puzzle of architectural history. Look around the grounds. The layout of the 1920s gardens remains largely unchanged. The tennis court, though missing its net, still whispers of past matches played against a backdrop of stunning mountain views. Mature Monterey pines stand guard along Falls Road. These towering sentinels have witnessed generations come and go. Notice the rhododendrons and camellias. These vibrant blooms add splashes of color to the already picturesque setting. In 1920, Davisville transitioned from a private home to a haven for women. The Young Women’s Christian Association purchased the property and renamed it Rennie House. It served as a much-needed holiday retreat, a place where women could escape the city’s bustle and connect with nature. The house has continued to evolve. It was later used by the Anglican Church and even housed a commune for a period. Each chapter in Davisville’s history has left its mark. The verandah enclosures, the additions to the main structure, and the modern gazebo all tell a story of adaptation and change. Davisville’s significance was recognized in 1999 when it was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register. Today, Davisville welcomes visitors as a bed and breakfast. It stands as a living reminder of the enduring power of history and architecture. Here, within these walls, the past comes alive. The laughter of holidaymakers, the quiet contemplation of those seeking solace, the whispers of generations past. Davisville continues to offer a retreat, a space for reflection and appreciation of the beauty surrounding us.
