Was there ever a place more aptly named than Dakengkou Bay? Dakengkou Bay translates to “Big Pit Mouth Bay”. It’s a name that speaks to the dramatic meeting of land and sea here in Zhuhai. This bay isn’t just a pretty face though. Dakengkou Bay holds a special place in Zhuhai’s story. It’s part of a coastline that stretches for an incredible 690 kilometers. It’s dotted with 217 islands, 147 of which are substantial enough to be noticed. This area has been a haven for island dwellers for 6,000 years. Imagine the stories these waters could tell. Dakengkou Bay, along with much of Zhuhai, is cradled by a humid subtropical climate. It’s thanks to the moderating influence of the South China Sea. This gives Zhuhai its long, hot summers and short, mild winters, making Dakengkou Bay a year-round destination. Zhuhai, and by extension Dakengkou Bay, has a fascinating relationship with its more famous neighbor, Macau. Zhuhai provides a crucial link to the world for Macau.
