In 1928, Daisen Terajima Elementary School first opened its doors. It was known then as the Tokyo Prefecture Minami Katsushika County Third Terajima Elementary School. Today, we stand before the modern Daisen Terajima Elementary School in Tokyo’s Sumida Ward. This school holds a special place in the community. It’s not just a place of learning, but a vibrant hub where the past intertwines with the present. Daisen Terajima Elementary School shares its grounds with the Daisen Terajima Kindergarten. This co-location fosters a unique environment. They engage in exchange classes throughout the school year, creating a seamless transition for children from kindergarten to elementary school. Daisen Terajima Elementary School is a relatively small school. Each of the six grade levels has only two classes with around 25 students each. This close-knit setting allows for personalized attention and a strong sense of community. The original school building, completed in 1973, had a distinct style. It featured a conical shape and a courtyard. Just two years later, in 1975, a new school building and courtyard were constructed, marking a significant step in the school’s history.
