From the glass facade of the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC CTU), the future seems to beckon. This striking blue building, standing tall with its seven levels, isn’t just a modern architectural marvel. It’s a hub of innovation, a place where cutting-edge research is shaping the world of tomorrow. The CIIRC CTU, established in 2017 as part of the Czech Technical University in Prague, is a relatively young institute. Yet, it carries the legacy of CTU, one of Europe’s oldest technical universities, founded in 1707. Inside these walls, nearly 300 employees work tirelessly across eight research departments, focusing on four key pillars: industry, energy, smart cities, and a healthy society. CIIRC CTU is not just about theoretical research. It houses the Testbed for Industry 4.0, a crucial component of the RICAIP Centre (Research and Innovation Centre on Advanced Industrial Production). This testbed is a playground for innovation, equipped with cutting-edge technology. Think robotic arms working alongside humans, 3D printers crafting intricate designs, and sophisticated control systems orchestrating it all. This is where the theories of Industry 4.0 are put to the test, shaping the factories of the future. Beyond the testbed, CIIRC CTU fosters a vibrant ecosystem of collaboration. It partners with industrial giants like Airbus, Škoda Auto, and Volkswagen, applying its research to real-world challenges. It is also a coordinator of the National Centre for Industry 4.0 (NCI40), a platform facilitating knowledge transfer between academia and industry. This ensures that the advancements made within these walls don’t remain confined to research papers, but translate into tangible improvements for businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises. CIIRC CTU’s ambition extends beyond national borders. It is a key player in European AI networks, a member of EIT Manufacturing, and involved in EIT Digital. It even hosts the CLAIRE Prague Office and is recognized as an ELLIS Unit, solidifying its position in the European AI landscape. The Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics isn’t merely an institute; it’s a testament to the power of innovation. It’s a place where ideas are transformed into reality. A place where the future is being built, one algorithm, one robot, one smart city at a time.
