Nestled in Kladno, the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering (FBMI) at the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT) hums with innovation. The FBMI ČVUT isn’t just another faculty. It’s a crucible where medicine meets engineering, where cutting-edge technology tackles complex health challenges. Established in 2005, FBMI ČVUT sprouted from the vision of the Center for Biomedical Engineering (CBMI) in 1996. Led by MUDr. Ing. Lubomír Poušek, MBA, the CBMI sought to foster collaboration between ČVUT’s various engineering disciplines and the medical expertise of Charles University’s 1st and 3rd Faculties of Medicine, as well as the Academy of Sciences. This collaborative spirit remains at the heart of FBMI ČVUT. The FBMI ČVUT’s “Kokos” building stands on náměstí Sítná, a space it shares with the secretariat of the Communist Party. As the faculty grew and added new programs, it expanded to the former Kladno barracks at Sportovců 2311. Here, within these walls, future biomedical engineers delve into bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. They explore fields like Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical and Clinical Engineering, and System Integration of Healthcare Processes. They delve into the intricacies of assistive technologies, nanotechnologies, and even civil emergency planning. The FBMI ČVUT is more than just classrooms and labs. It’s a dynamic hub of research, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in healthcare. Did you know the current dean, Prof. MUDr. Jozef Rosina, Ph.D., MBA, was first appointed in 2008? Or that former ČVUT rector Václav Havlíček was awarded honorary citizenship of Kladno in 2013 for his contributions to the FBMI ČVUT? The FBMI ČVUT stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the transformative potential of biomedical engineering. It’s a place where innovation thrives and the future of healthcare takes shape.
