What if I told you that Curtin University once had a vibrant campus right here in Sydney? Curtin University Sydney, also known as Curtin Sydney, opened its doors to students in 2005. Initially located in The Rocks, the campus later moved to the historic Berlei Building in Chippendale. Curtin Sydney focused on providing international students with diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate courses. The university partnered with Navitas Group, a private tertiary education provider, to manage the campus operations. The curriculum mirrored that of Curtin University’s main campus in Bentley, Western Australia, ensuring a consistent educational experience for all students. This bustling hub offered a unique blend of academic rigor and the dynamic energy of Sydney. However, Curtin Sydney’s journey wasn’t without its challenges. In 2014, the campus was embroiled in a controversy involving a “cash-for-results” scandal. Students were found to have paid a third-party company to complete their assignments and exams. This incident cast a shadow over the institution’s reputation. Ultimately, in 2015, Curtin University made the difficult decision to close the Sydney campus in 2017.
