The story begins during World War II. These were the famous WWII underground bunkers known as Little Hong Kong. British troops held their position here for two days after Hong Kong’s official surrender. They threatened to destroy their weapons rather than surrender. They finally capitulated on December 27 1941. Today those original bunkers remain. Encased in one-meter-thick stone walls they form the heart of Crown Wine Cellars.
Now the bunkers house an elite private club. Opulently appointed reception areas. A bar. A dining room. Even a library. Each space echoes with historical significance. Amongst the artifacts is Captain Bell’s diary. A fascinating account of his wartime experiences including his time at Little Hong Kong.
