Have you heard of the quaint suburb of Crofton Downs? An elegant street called Churchill Drive in Crofton Downs, leads up to the well-loved Crofton Downs Train Station. It has a distinctive charm, nestled amongst the rolling slopes of the Wellington hills.

Hidden away in the bustling suburb of Crofton Downs, this station is an elegant reminder of a different age. It has a rich legacy. It was officially opened on March 25, 1963. This was shortly after a whole neighborhood in the area was being promoted. It takes a little getting used to at first, but the train station feels less like a transit location and more like a cherished community hub.

It served the newly formed Crofton Downs, which had been the name of a house built in 1857 by Premier William Fox. The house was named after his wife’s birthplace, Crofton in Wiltshire. The little village is quite far away. You can still see Fox’s home which is located only two blocks away. It was part of a larger estate, but only the main house remains, hidden behind a wall of hedges.
